The DB6 Mk2 Vantage carried forward the unmistakable styling cues of the DB series and of course the introduction of its signature Kamm tail, a subtle aerodynamic truncation introduced on this model to improve stability at speed.

Description

The Mk2 Vantage was introduced in 1969 and only produced until 1970 & represents one of the most refined evolutions of Aston Martin’s classic DB grand-touring lineage.

Although visually similar to the earlier DB6, the Mk2 had wider 15-inch wheels, flared arches, revised suspension geometry for improved both grip/stability and benefited from better-weighted power steering too.

This car, chassis no. DB6/MKFI/4167/R was produced for the home market on 26 March 1970 but not registered until 10th November. Finished as built in Pacific Blue with red leather and still offering happily its matching numbers too.

As you will recognise from the chassis number, the letters 'FI' designate that it was built with the exceptionally rare Brico “Speed Injection”. Incredibly only a small number of 'Fuel Injected' cars were built, data points to just 46, but sadly it wasn't a happy union due to its very poor reliability, thus most were as this car has been, converted back to Webbers.

Although the history is very detailed and goes back to 1980, its difficult to determine exactly when it was converted, but certainly sometime before 1980, as a Aston Martin Service Dorset invoice from this year relates to carburettor balancing, so one would guess it was changed relatively early on.

Further AM specialists Hyde Vale, Aston Engineering and Aston Workshop has all played roles in its upkeep and servicing until 2000, when Messrs. Goldsmith & Young were approach by the then owner, a Major in the Royal Artillery. They went on to carry out significant body work repairs, including a new sills & a bare metal repaint which amounted to a heady £31,920 back then! Pleasingly all of this work is detailed via specific invoices and photographs taken by John Goldsmith.

Prior to its purchase by the current keeper in September 2006, John Goldsmith was asked to undertake a thorough inspection, again the file paper work gives a concise account of this inspection, but alludes to some probable & future necessary engine work which wasn't covered earlier in 2000.

Knowing this gentleman over a number of years as we have, he's certainly never one to shy away from what's needed and immediately sanctioned engine works along with the logical upgrade to 4.2 Litres. Again this is well documented over pages of invoicing, plus importantly a dyno sheet readout too, where peak performance was shown to be just under 300bhp.

In addition, to maximise its new performance potential, a Harvey Bailey handling kit was fitted along with for increased longevity, a stainless steel exhaust and new stainless wires; both sensible upgrades given these cars general inactivity.

He didn't leave it there, opting to also completely refurbish the interior which was passed its best; as you can see from the photos, the seats were superbly reupholstered in red Connolly hide whilst carpets with were replaced Wilton's best, the end result is very impressive indeed.

Used and enjoyed albeit infrequently as he has resided overseas for over 25 years, the car nevertheless has been continually serviced and more recently with the decision to offer it up for sale, its been through considerable pre-sale works at Vantage Engineering here in Rudgwick, thus completely road ready.

A very well sorted and immensely useable DB6 MK2 Vantage that with the known history and historical mots on file, verifies both the low number of former keepers and its odometer reading of just 70,822 miles.

We would be delighted to arrange a viewing of this DB6 at our Rudgwick, West Sussex showroom or to discuss it in further detail, please contact Julien Sumner on 07788 856700.
