I guess this is what happens when chaps "go out in the midday sun"!
There will be varying thoughts, and I'm sure interesting commentary, about this special Jaguar but one thing’s for sure, it's as an important car in the round, just as Ian Callum’s heavily breathed upon Jaguar Mk2 or even Harry Metcalf's alternative XJC are. It demonstrates the bold, independent, and perhaps even a slightly eccentric spirit of individualism that we Brits have in spades, and thank goodness for that!
There's a Heritage certificate for the Jaguar which endorses its DNA as a genuine RHD XJC which was supplied via Mann Egerton in April 1976 and pleasingly states there have been just three former keepers.
Purchased in dire need of total restoration, the car was subsequently dismantled and then rebuilt from the ground up. The owner has said it was at this initial stage the thought of a bespoke build occurred to him, as quotes for a rebuilt V12 were enormously expensive and, without the important manual gearbox, it would only ever be a "grand tourer" instead of more driver orientated car that was envisaged.
It's evident from the invoice trail and photographs of there build that literally everything has been rebuilt or replaced, along with re-engineering to accommodate the new enhanced mechanicals. The documentation of the ongoing costs are exact and unbelievably amount to more than £120,000. All the individuals and companies involved with this car are well known to me, and their corresponding invoices on file clearly identify their significant input.
The engine is an AJ6 4.0 from an XJS and keeps its 5 speed manual gearbox, both of which were rebuilt. It’s certainly a very lively unit and being that much lighter gives nothing away to the V12 in terms of performance. Perhaps one of my most eagerly anticipated drives, it certainly did not disappoint!
Again with a keen desire to enhance the driving experience, the front seats are from a XJS and are supremely comfortable. The legendary Jaguar suspension has been enhanced with a bent towards a more driver focused set-up but which in no way undermines the ride quality.
It's certainly a fabulous car both to look at and drive The dark blue paint and swathes of chrome contrast perfectly with the burgundy leather interior. Some further nice touches have been carried over from the XJS, namely electric lumber support and the fly-off handbrake, both of which work perfectly to enhance the driver's environment.
I could go on, but if emotions have been stirred, this car is certainly not one to miss as I doubt anybody would underwrite an XJC re-build of this nature again.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Jaguar it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing.
