The first Metropolitans rolled off the Longbridge production line in October 1953, but it wasn't until 1957 that any cars were released onto the 'Home' (UK) market. Something approaching 103,000 were built under contract which was at the time, a vital Dollar earner for a severely financially crippled Britain.
We know from the Heritage Certificate on file that this particular Nash, chassis # NK 3E/32705 was built at Longbridge on 27th February 1957; finished in Coral Red/Frost White, with extras of a heater, radio, whitewalls & laminated windscreen!
Exported immediately State side, it was snapped up by a American Serviceman who a few years later, was posted to a US Base in Suffolk and shipped his little Nash back across to Blighty - it was registered in 1962 as '34 EXX'. Presumably leaving his Nash behind, successive ownership can be traced from the early 70's, with just 2 further keepers from 1978 to to date.
Chanced upon in 1978 by Nash enthusiast and Club Chairman, Bill Dowsing, who established the Nash Owners Club in 1972, a full nut and bolt restoration was undertaken. Evidently a labour of love as finally restored to the road in 1983, it was not until 1990 that the interior was finished.
The car supplied with a history file, original green log book, reams of Mots, a typed history from Mr Dowsing, plus various original hand books and workshop manuals.
If one of these little cars appeals, then a well known Club car that was restored, driven and cherished by the Club Chairman must be the one to pick. It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Metropolitan can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call 07788 865700.
