In January 2023 Driving Classics were lucky enough to purchase this cracking Alpine A310 V6 from Paul Brightman, who was one the former owners of what was then 'Royce Service & Engineering' who had found the car a few years previously in Italy.
Essentially the story is as follows..... during 2015 he had delivered a Rolls-Royce to a chap in Brescia, Italy, and saw this Alpine in the garage. He'd always had an A310 V6 itch and happily managed to shake hands and return with it on the trailer!
Move along to 2021 and an opportunity arose for us to step into the breach. Given Paul's 50 years of technical and engineering experience, it was certainly a no brainer from our point of view, plus we knew the car well!
It's certainly a lovely example and looks particularly appealing in its correct Alpine blue...happily you can see the run of the fibre glass under the paint (not dissimilar to a modern carbon wave nowadays) which is important.
Interior wise, all is in very good condition and has the added benefit of a modern radio with blue tooth fitted.
The first of a couple of upgrades Paul chose to fit was a set of extremely rare 3 stud Gotti's alloys. Not only do they carry some sensible rubber but also vastly improve the look, stance and the cars drivability compared to the original alloys, which incidentally come with the car.
The second was a three-branch manifold stainless sports exhaust, (stainless headers and stainless sports back box) again immeasurably improving its looks and adds a wonderful V6 howl, especially under hard acceleration plus an addictive popping on the over-run.
Further engine enhancements include a baffled sump and remote oil cooler plus a upgraded electric fan. The original four speed close ratio gearbox remains.
Paul Sage (leading Alpine Specialist) knows the car well, as he initially helped Paul with its recommission and upgrades back in 2016 and servicing for us too.
It's a real hoot to drive and certainly turns heads where ever it goes....the French applauded enthusiastically whilst on route to Angoulême and there's always notes left on the windscreen after a visit to Goodwood!
